Impressions of the Isle of Thanet

“…the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe.”
J.M.W. Turner

I had read about them, but seeing the Thanet skies for myself constantly brings home Turner’s words and inspiration. Beautiful, eerie light seems less ephemeral here, as if the pause button has been pressed. After our move, I felt part of that pause, and this enabled me to regard the coastal light in depth, through my photos, through the seasons. These shots from last summer are part of a journal that captures our quiet life by the raging sea. As long as the sky keeps shifting, I’ll be inspired.

Stella Ortiz

I am a translator and photographer from Buenos Aires. Photography has always been a passion, but only after my daughter was born did I have the chance to immerse myself in the craft. Moody, atmospheric scenes framed by a 35mm prime lens define my style. I have recently moved to Margate, Kent with my husband and daughter, where I have set to documenting our quiet life and wanderings.
