FOR SUBMISSIONS

The stories and photos of Salt are a global community collaboration. We are interested in original, unpublished images and stories based on a salt life. We are accepting submissions for:

  • Interviews with sea captains / crew (lobster boats, commercial/private fisherman, etc.)
  • Stories of living & playing on the coast (surf, taking it slow, lifestyle, play, etc.)
  • Protecting our oceans
  • Photo essays from the coast/sea
  • Beach inspired cottages and decor

At Salt, we approve submissions contingent upon topic and time allowance. We look at all submitted works daily – and we welcome new contributors. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, provided it will not violate any guidelines of the other publication.

Submissions are currently unpaid, but we’re seeking collaborators with a passion for the sea to build our community-based global journal.

To submit, please email us at zen.different@gmail.com with an abstract of your story / recipe or a couple sample images from your photo essay (see guidelines below). Please allow time for response as the editorial team is small at this point.

Guidelines for Photographers

  1. Send us a short introduction about yourself (50 words, give or take) and your photography style. If you have any published work, please include a link. We’ll ask to verify the bio and have you include a small photo upon approval of the article.
  2. Submit your photo essay/story ideas: this should include a max 200 word abstract, any relevant website links and supporting sample photographs. We only need a few sample images, not an entire series. Should we decide to go forward, then we’ll work together on your complete submission.
  3. Submitted photos should be 1100px wide, no larger than 2MB each and sent as a jpg.

Note: for the final submission we will be looking for an introduction to the photo essay of 50-100 words and between 10-20 photos in the series (all 1100px wide).

Guidelines for Writers

  1. Send us a short introduction about yourself (50 words, plus or minus) and your writing style (editorial, documentary, etc). If you have any published work, please include a link. We’ll ask to verify the bio and have you include a small photo upon approval of the article.
  2. Submit a max 200 word abstract and any relevant website links and supporting sample photographs (if any). The abstract can be in the body of the email, or as an attached PDF.
